New Delhi: India’s wholesale price inflation (WPI) surged to 1.84% in September 2024, up from 1.31% in August, driven primarily by escalating food costs. Government data highlights that the inflation in food items spiked significantly to 9.47% in September from 3.26% in the previous month. The steep rise was notably influenced by vegetable prices, which experienced sharp increases due to supply disruptions. Conversely, fuel and power sectors saw deflation, with prices dropping over 4%, moderating the overall impact on inflation.
