Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made an impressive claim regarding the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, stating that more than 50% of the world’s Sanatan Dharma followers have visited the religious gathering. According to the latest reports, over 60 crore devotees have attended the event, making it one of the largest spiritual congregations in the world.
A Rare Gathering of Devotees
Speaking at the Mahakumbh Mela Mahotsav in Mahakumbh Nagar, Adityanath called the event one of the “rarest occurrences” of the century. Addressing an audience that included Kamkoti Peethadheeswar Jagadguru Shankaracharya Shankar Vijayendra Saraswati Maharaj, the Chief Minister emphasized the historical and spiritual significance of the gathering.
“Which religion or sect in the world sees such a massive turnout of devotees who express their faith within such a limited time frame?” Adityanath asked. His words reflect the sheer scale of the event, which has seen a tremendous outpouring of devotion from followers of Sanatan Dharma across the globe. The Mahakumbh Mela, held at the Triveni Sangam, is considered one of the holiest gatherings for Hindus, drawing millions to take a dip in the sacred confluence of three rivers—Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati.
The Spiritual Essence of Mahakumbh
Adityanath described the Mahakumbh as not only a spiritual event but also a platform for expressing gratitude towards India’s rich religious traditions. “This event has become a medium for the followers of Sanatan Dharma to express their respect towards their seers, the Rishi tradition, their Dev tradition, and the festivals they celebrate,” he remarked, further underscoring the importance of this massive congregation for spiritual renewal.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister stressed that the Mahakumbh Mela is not just a religious gathering but a reflection of India’s deep-rooted cultural and spiritual legacy. With the gathering of millions in a short time span, he referred to the Mahakumbh as a rare event in any part of the world, whether spiritual or tourism-focused.
Mahakumbh and Uttar Pradesh’s Growth
During his address at the Unicorn Companies Conclave in Agra, Adityanath also emphasized the growing importance of Uttar Pradesh as a hub for economic development, particularly in the startup sector. He urged the youth of the state to shift their focus from seeking jobs to creating them, underscoring the government’s efforts to promote entrepreneurship.
According to reports, over 14,000 startups are operational in Uttar Pradesh, with 7,000 of them led by women. The success of these startups reflects the state’s transition from a focus on agriculture to becoming a thriving startup hub. Adityanath’s comments indicate that Uttar Pradesh is not only a center for Sanatan Dharma and spiritual traditions but also a rapidly evolving economic center in India.
A Historic Mahakumbh Mela
The Mahakumbh Mela is one of the largest religious events in the world, attracting millions of devotees from various parts of India and beyond. This year’s gathering continues to set records, with large crowds expected to participate in the final significant ritual of Maha Shivratri on February 26.
As the spiritual significance of the event reaches its peak, the Mahakumbh Mela remains a testament to India’s rich cultural traditions and the deep faith of millions of people worldwide. With over 60 crore devotees already attending, this year’s event continues to highlight the immense power of devotion and community within the Sanatan Dharma tradition.
