Abhishek Kar, a YouTuber and self-proclaimed financial influencer, issued a public apology on Saturday following outrage over derogatory remarks he made about Assam’s history and traditions during a podcast. His comments, which included sensational claims about tantric practices in an Assamese village, were widely criticized for being disrespectful and misleading.

The controversy escalated after the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) of Assam flagged the matter on social media, urging police action. “A video from a YouTube channel named Riya Upreti shows Abhishek Kar making unacceptable comments about Assam. Appropriate action should be initiated for spreading misinformation,” the CMO posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh responded promptly, assuring that lawful action would be taken. An FIR has since been filed, and an investigation is underway, confirmed Additional DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta.

Abhishek Kar, who describes himself as a trader, investor, and mentor on his YouTube channel, apologized for his remarks via X. “Apologies to the people of Assam, @CMOfficeAssam, @gpsinghips, and every concerned party who was hurt. The intent wasn’t to hurt anyone, and I’ll ensure such incidents don’t happen again,” he wrote.

He also pledged to verify secondary information more rigorously before presenting it to the public, acknowledging the responsibility that comes with being a content creator.
