YouTuber Elvish Yadav Summoned by NCW Over Racist Remarks Against Chum Darang

National Commission for Women Acts on Elvish Yadav's Derogatory Comments Towards Bigg Boss 18 Finalist

Breaking News

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned popular YouTuber Elvish Yadav following his alleged racist and derogatory remarks about actress and Bigg Boss 18 finalist Chum Darang. Yadav is scheduled to appear before the commission on February 17, 2025.

The controversy arose from a recent podcast where Yadav mocked Darang’s name and questioned her appeal, making statements that many deemed offensive. His remarks have sparked widespread criticism on social media and condemnation from the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW).

APSCW Chairperson Kenjum Pakam emphasized that Yadav’s comments insult not only Darang but also women across Northeast India. In a formal complaint to the NCW, Pakam highlighted how such remarks contribute to discrimination and marginalization of Northeastern women in Bollywood and beyond.

In response to the backlash, Yadav addressed the issue in a vlog, stating that he intended to clarify his statements. He acknowledged reviewing social media reactions and, upon realizing the negative impact of his comments, decided to remove the contentious portion from his podcast.

Chum Darang responded to the incident by stressing the harm caused by such remarks. She stated, “Disrespecting someone’s identity and name is not ‘fun.’ Mocking someone’s achievements is not ‘banter.’ It’s time we draw the line between humor and hate.”

The NCW’s decision to summon Yadav underscores the seriousness of the issue and the need to address derogatory and racist comments in public discourse.
