Non-Local Killed by Terrorists in Shopian, J&K; Investigation Underway

A tragic terrorist attack has claimed the life of a non-local individual in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. The body, found with bullet wounds in the Waduna area of Zainapora, was recovered on October 18. According to local authorities, the attack is believed to have targeted the individual based on his non-local status, a disturbing trend seen in recent incidents in the region.

Police have confirmed the attack and launched a thorough investigation to identify those responsible. The body has been sent to a hospital for medico-legal formalities to aid in the investigation.

This incident comes amid renewed security concerns following the conclusion of elections earlier this month, which saw Omar Abdullah’s return to office as Chief Minister. Similar acts of violence against non-local laborers and workers have been reported in the region, reflecting challenges in maintaining security post the abrogation of Article 370.

Supreme Court Dismisses Petition Alleging Captivity of Women at Isha Foundation

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India dismissed a habeas corpus petition filed by Dr. S. Kamaraj, a retired professor, who accused the Isha Foundation of holding his two daughters, Geetha (42) and Latha (39), against their will. The petition, which sought to have the women produced in court, claimed they were being confined at the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore.

During the hearing, the court took note of statements from the daughters confirming they were residing at the ashram of their own free will and were free to leave at any time. As a result, the bench concluded that no further action was required in the matter and dismissed the petition.

The Supreme Court’s decision aligns with a report from Tamil Nadu police, which found no evidence supporting the claim of illegal confinement. The case was initially prompted by the Madras High Court, which had directed police to investigate the allegations on September 30.

The dismissal, however, does not exempt the Isha Foundation from complying with other regulatory requirements, as clarified by the court. The foundation has denied all accusations, asserting that adults living in the ashram do so by choice and are neither coerced into monkhood nor isolated from their families.

OTT Platforms Empower Actors to Break Free from Stereotypes

Mumbai: Anupama Solanki, known for her role in Kuch Reet Jagat Ki Aisi Hai, believes the OTT revolution is reshaping the acting landscape. Though she hasn’t ventured into OTT yet, she observes how these platforms are unlocking new doors for actors.

“OTT platforms have opened up a world of diverse roles and unique characters,” she said. “I see many actors getting opportunities to explore different sides of themselves, which excites me about the types of roles I might take on in the future.”

Anupama praised the creative freedom OTT platforms offer, enabling creators and actors to tell more dynamic and unrestricted stories. “This space allows talent to shine in ways traditional mediums often don’t. It pushes us to deliver performances that stand out.”

Looking ahead, she sees the future of acting evolving with the continued growth of OTT. “There are more opportunities for fresh talent, though not every project will succeed. That’s part of the journey—constantly improving and striving to create compelling content.”

As for bold content, Anupama feels it has become normalized on OTT platforms but stresses the need for balance. “Bold content should have purpose, not just be used for shock value. Meaningful storytelling is what makes a project truly impactful.”

Thane Set to Become MMR’s Next Development Hub

Mumbai: CM Eknath Shinde, has been spearheading an ambitious infrastructure overhaul for Thane, aiming to transform it into a major hub within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The development plan, which includes 34 key infrastructure projects, is seen as pivotal to the state’s goal of becoming a USD 1.5 trillion economy by 2047. These initiatives are designed to enhance connectivity, boost economic activity, and improve the overall quality of life in the region.

Key projects include the Thane-Borivali underground tunnel, which will dramatically cut travel time between the two cities, and the Thane Circular Metro Project, both of which have received significant financial backing. The metro project alone, with an updated budget of Rs.12,200 crore, is poised to enhance intra-city connectivity, making it easier for residents to commute within the city and beyond.

Road projects will further integrate Thane with the broader MMR, creating seamless links between the northern and southern regions of the city. These initiatives are complemented by the expansion of the Navi Mumbai International Airport, a crucial element in boosting Thane’s regional connectivity and positioning it as a key node in Maharashtra’s infrastructure network.

Thane’s strategic location, combined with these developments, will help attract industries, promote residential growth, and foster commercial investments. The emphasis on technology sectors like AI, data centres, and robotics is expected to attract high-value investments, propelling Thane’s transformation into a global business hub. Apart from Thane city, projects are planned for  Kalyan, Dombivali, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, Mumbra and Kalwa.
