Meesho Faces Backlash for Selling Lawrence Bishnoi T-Shirts: Public Calls to…

Critics are strongly condemning e-commerce giant Meesho for offering t-shirts emblazoned with images of notorious Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.. The shirts, some marketed for children and emblazoned with the word “gangster,” have sparked a debate on the potential glorification of criminal figures and its influence on young audiences.

The controversy was brought into the spotlight by filmmaker Alishan Jafri, who expressed his concerns on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Describing the merchandise as an example of “India’s latest online radicalisation,” Jafri shared images of the t-shirts available on Meesho, priced as low as ₹168. He raised concerns about the dangers of mainstreaming crime culture, particularly with merchandise aimed at younger consumers.

Lawrence Bishnoi became infamous in India for high-profile crimes, like Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala’s assassination and threats to Salman Khan.Recently, authorities also linked his gang to the killing of Baba Siddique, a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Jafri highlighted incidents across the country where young people, inspired by gangster content, engaged in violent behavior. He mentioned cases like a 15-year-old from Deoria committing murder under gangster influence and three Delhi boys forming the “Badnaam Gang.”

Outrage over the merchandise was immediate, with social media users condemning Meesho’s decision to allow sales of such items on its platform. “Shame on Meesho for promoting gangster culture,” wrote one user. Others demanded to de-platform the platform, arguing that promoting gangsters as cultural icons could seriously impact Indian society.

The debate raises questions on e-commerce and social media’s role in promoting dangerous ideologies as authorities struggle against gang influence.

MVA Claims Mahayuti’s DGP Transfer Aimed at Election Manipulation

MUMBAI: MVA vs. Mahayuti – The Battle Over Maharashtra’s Resources: With the Maharashtra Assembly elections looming, Leader of the Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar has publicly condemned the transfer of Maharashtra’s Director General of Police (DGP), alleging that the Mahayuti government, a coalition of the BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP, is using administrative tools to manipulate electoral outcomes. This criticism emerges amidst accusations from the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, consisting of the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena faction, and Sharad Pawar’s NCP, asserting widespread “irregularities” and corruption within the Mahayuti’s ranks.

Allegations of Favoritism in Major Land Deals and Corporate Benefits: Wadettiwar contends that the ruling coalition’s transfer decision was an attempt to neutralize independent law enforcement efforts and ensure a political advantage in the state’s upcoming elections on November 20. He stressed that this strategy reflects a broader pattern of Mahayuti’s alleged bias in favor of corporate interests and politically aligned contractors, noting that critical land parcels like Mumbai’s Dharavi redevelopment site have been offered at undervalued rates to entities associated with business tycoon Gautam Adani. This move, he argued, compromises the interests of Maharashtra’s residents and resources for private gain.

Opposition’s Call for Transparency and Public-Centric Policies: The opposition MVA alliance is simultaneously grappling with local and national issues, including inflation, the agrarian crisis, and allegations of favoritism toward Gujarat-based companies. Wadettiwar pointed out the transfer as part of the ruling coalition’s “strategy” to sidestep accountability in Maharashtra and instead expand influence through political maneuvers.

MVA’s Election Strategy: Aiming for Over 200 Seats with United Front: However, he expressed confidence in the MVA’s chances, asserting the alliance’s aim to achieve over 200 seats by emphasizing development-focused policies and transparent governance. The alliance’s united front, particularly following a resolved seat-sharing formula, underscores a strategic approach, with Wadettiwar and MVA leaders hopeful of halting what they term “the loot of Maharashtra.”

Maharashtra Elections: A High-Stakes Test for Both Political Alliances: With both alliances gearing up for the November election, this race is widely viewed as a test of political narratives: the MVA’s focus on public welfare and regional integrity versus the Mahayuti’s push for economic and industrial reform underlined by developmental claims. These dynamics signal a potentially volatile election season, with each move being closely scrutinized by both parties and the public.

Are Spin-Friendly Pitches a Challenge for Team India? Rohit Sharma Responds to Criticism

0

In 2024, as Team India faced challenging Test series at home, the effectiveness of spin-friendly pitches has become a debated topic. Captain Rohit Sharma has defended India’s use of turning tracks, emphasizing that playing to the team’s traditional strengths should not be questioned. However, India’s recent struggles against quality spin bowling have raised concerns, particularly after a surprising defeat to Australia, who skillfully exploited these conditions.

Sharma pointed out that the losses were more a result of shot selection than pitch conditions. “Out of ten wickets in the first innings, only a few were due to the pitch aiding the bowlers,” Sharma noted, highlighting that India’s dismissals largely stemmed from batsmen underestimating skillful spin bowling. Australia’s stand-in captain Steve Smith praised his bowlers’ control on Indian pitches, attributing their rare Test victory in India to a well-executed game plan.

In upcoming matches, Indian players and selectors are reportedly contemplating lineup changes, particularly to bolster performance on slower pitches. Cricket experts believe these adjustments could be crucial as India prepares to face England’s strong spin attack in early 2025.

While questions persist, Sharma maintains that India’s approach aligns with international cricket standards, where teams maximize home-ground advantages. As cricketing nations await India’s response to these recent setbacks, fans and analysts are keenly observing if Team India can reclaim their dominance on home soil.
