Narrow Escape: Ex-DSP Navneet Hembrom Secures BJP Candidacy in Jharkhand Race

Former Deputy Superintendent of Police Navneet Hembrom has officially filed his nomination as a BJP candidate for the Maheshpur constituency in Jharkhand, just hours before the deadline on October 29. This follows a protracted battle to secure his resignation from the Jharkhand Police, which was only approved on October 28 after intervention from the Jharkhand High Court and the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Hembrom’s name appeared in the BJP’s first candidate list released on October 19, but he faced delays due to the state government’s non-acceptance of his resignation filed on June 15. As per Rule 808 of the Jharkhand Police Manual, police officers must provide two months’ notice for resignation, but Hembrom’s case was complicated by political considerations surrounding his candidacy.

Sources indicate that Hembrom sought his resignation multiple times but received no response from the JMM-led government. Frustrated, he approached the high court in August, which mandated the Inspector General of Police to expedite the process. Despite the court’s directive, his resignation was not finalized until shortly before the nomination deadline, prompting him to file a contempt plea on October 18.

On October 25, during a court hearing, the state government claimed the resignation was pending approval from Chief Minister Hemant Soren. After Hembrom escalated his grievance to the ECI, the government finally accepted his resignation, allowing him to file his nomination just hours before the cutoff.

In a statement, Hembrom expressed relief, saying, “I have filed the nomination and now I want to focus on the campaign.”

Political analysts note that Hembrom’s situation highlights the intense pressure the JMM faces in the lead-up to the elections, especially as he prepares to challenge two-time JMM MLA Stephen Marandi, who previously defeated the BJP candidate by a substantial margin in 2019. An insider from the government remarked, “The JMM seems desperate to maintain its hold, which is evident in the hurdles Hembrom faced.”

As the campaign heats up, the Maheshpur constituency will be a key battleground in the upcoming elections.

RCP Singh Breaks Ground: New Party Set to Challenge Bihar’s Political Status Quo

Patna: Former Union Minister RCP Singh is set to launch a new political party in Bihar on November 2, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the festival of Diwali. Singh, who previously served as a prominent leader in the Janata Dal (United) JD(U) and later as Union Steel Minister, aims to provide a fresh political alternative to the people of Bihar as the state gears up for the 2025 Assembly elections.

In a statement regarding his decision, Singh emphasized the need for a political shift in the region, saying, “Bihar deserves a new vision and leadership that truly represents its people. Our party will work to unite and empower the citizens across Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi.”

Singh’s political journey has been marked by significant shifts. After serving in various capacities within JD(U), including as its national president, tensions grew with Nitish Kumar, particularly after Singh accepted a ministerial position in the BJP-led government. Differences over ministerial negotiations and policy decisions led to Singh’s resignation as party president in 2021, followed by his exit from the JD(U) in 2022 when Kumar chose not to renew his Rajya Sabha membership.

After a brief stint with the BJP, where he felt sidelined, Singh is now focused on creating an independent political entity. He stated, “I believe in a political platform that is not just an extension of existing parties but one that addresses the aspirations of the youth and marginalized communities in Bihar.”

RCP Singh’s educational background, which includes degrees from Patna College and Jawaharlal Nehru University, laid the groundwork for his successful career as an IAS officer before transitioning into politics. His rise within the JD(U) culminated in pivotal roles that strengthened the party’s grassroots presence.

As Singh prepares for the launch, political analysts note the significance of his move in reshaping Bihar’s political position, especially in the wake of growing discontent with traditional parties. With his extensive experience and connections, Singh’s new party could emerge as a formidable player in the upcoming elections.

India vs New Zealand: 3rd Test preview

Heading to the final test, everyone expected it to be a dead rubber. It is, but with a twist. It’s not New Zealand who is on the losing side. Visitors without Kane Williamson and Trent Boult managed to beat India in India. It wasn’t a close call, the Kiwis overpowered India in every department.
In Mumbai, the mighty Indian Test team will play for its pride and mostly importantly for WTC finals. Any further dent in their campaign, they will have to rely on the results of other contenders. This year has been a rollercoaster. India ended its ICC trophy drought in June, then lost the ODI series against Sri Lanka and home series defeat. India has lost a test series on home soil, first rst time in 12 years.

Pitch Report
Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium traditionally has been a hunting ground for batters. The red soil here allows the ball to come nicely on to the bat. Given the circumstances, a pitch favouring Indian spinners is definitely in contention. Indian batters in the first test were bundled out by pacers and by spin in 2nd test. We have to wait until tomorrow to see how the pitch is, and what can be expected. If its spin friendly, a low scorer like Pune is on the cards.
Squads
India would probably rest Jasprit Bumrah to manage his workload. He is the critical element in the team, who is going to lead Indian bowling in Australia later this year. Dhruv Jurel or Axar Patel might as well get a chance. Its baffling to see player like Axar Patel is warming the bench. He proved to be a reliable option, even outperforming likes of Ashwin and Jadeja at times.
Playing XI- Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubhman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant/Dhruv Jurel, Sarfaraz Khan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar/Axar Patel, Akash Deep, Mohammad Siraj
New Zealand on the hand might stick to its winning combination. Kane Williamson won’t be playing 3rd test either. They are on the verge of giving India its biggest embarrassment in recent times.
New Zealand to play the same XI from the Pune test.
What went wrong for India
There few things. Firstly, India failed to read its own pitches. The host nations prepare pitches to suit their squad. Whether India played on this card or not is a different thing. Its failure to judge Bengalore wicket cost them massively. A spinning track in Pune did not help either. Indian batters fumbled badly against NZ spinners. Reckless shot making made worsened the situation. Lack of faith in Axar Patel is mind boggling. He demonstrated his ability to score on tricky wickets carrying the tail, was instrumental in India defending BGT at home last year. Surprisingly, he was sidelined for both the matches in this series.
India has a challenge to avoid whitewash and stay alive on its own in WTC final race. Relying on others will not guarantee and also affects the credibility of the team. The downfall from being favourite to struggle for survival in just 2 matches is unbelievable. Reminds of India’s debacle at 2021 T20 World Cup.
