The oath-taking ceremony will take place in Mumbai, with the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking a pivotal moment for the Shiv Sena faction led by Shinde.

Shinde’s Political Journey and Government Formation

Eknath Shinde, leader of the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), has played a crucial role in Maharashtra’s political turmoil in recent years. His decision to break away from Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena in 2022 led to the formation of the current government under the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance. Despite facing challenges from various political factions, Shinde’s return to power as Deputy CM signals a consolidation of his position within the state government.

The oath-taking ceremony is set to take place at Azad Maidan, Mumbai, with BJP and Shiv Sena leaders marking the occasion. The new leadership structure is part of efforts to solidify the alliance between BJP and Shiv Sena, aimed at strengthening governance in the state amid recent political developments. Shinde, who had previously served as Chief Minister, is now set to resume a significant role under the BJP-led administration.

The Impact of Shinde’s Appointment on Maharashtra Politics

The swearing-in of Eknath Shinde as Deputy CM comes after a period of uncertainty and political drama, with multiple factions within the ruling alliance vying for key positions. His role is seen as a strategic move to maintain the balance within the coalition and ensure a stable government ahead of upcoming challenges.

With the alliance’s unity being tested over the years, Shinde’s appointment as Deputy CM is expected to reinforce the BJP-Shiv Sena relationship and solidify their influence in Maharashtra politics. His leadership continues to be a decisive factor in the state’s political dynamics.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol Faces Investigation Amid Martial Law Controversy

South Korea’s National Police Agency has launched an investigation into President Yoon Suk Yeol for alleged insurrection after his imposition of martial law triggered domestic and international backlash. Intended to quell unrest, the declaration involved restricting political activities and censoring media. However, it escalated tensions when armed troops entered the National Assembly in Seoul, leading to a dramatic standoff with parliamentary aides who forced them to retreat.

Opposition lawmakers from the Democratic Party criticized the move, citing public fear and confusion. They are preparing to initiate an impeachment vote, which requires support from at least eight members of Yoon’s ruling People Power Party to pass. This marks one of the most serious challenges to Yoon’s presidency.

In response, Yoon accepted Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun’s resignation, acknowledging his role in advising the martial law declaration. Vice-Defense Minister Kim Seon-ho, who was uninformed about deploying troops, expressed regret for failing to oppose the decision.

International allies, including the United States, also reacted sharply. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed concern over the lack of prior notification, while Deputy Secretary Kurt Campbell criticized Yoon’s “misjudgment” in handling the crisis. This unprecedented political turmoil has placed Yoon’s administration under intense scrutiny as the nation grapples with its implications.

Opposition Stages Protest in Parliament with ‘Modi-Adani ek hain’ Jackets Over Bribery Allegations

In a striking demonstration, Congress MPs and other opposition leaders took to Parliament on Thursday, wearing black jackets emblazoned with the slogan “Modi Adani ek hain” (Modi and Adani are one), protesting against the recent bribery and fraud charges faced by billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani. The protest aimed to highlight the ongoing demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into Adani’s alleged financial wrongdoings.

The opposition’s protest centered around allegations that Adani, along with his nephew, had been implicated by US prosecutors in a bribery and fraud case. The Congress party has long called for a comprehensive inquiry into the issue, asserting that a fair investigation could implicate both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Adani, given their close relationship.

As part of the protest, leaders like Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi, both Members of Parliament, wore black half-jackets with the slogan boldly displayed on the back. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, addressed the protest, stating, “Modi ji cannot allow an investigation into Adani because it would implicate him as well. Modi and Adani are not two, they are one.”

Earlier in the week, a series of protests by opposition leaders from parties including Congress, AAP, RJD, Shiv Sena (UBT), DMK, and the Left had taken place at Parliament, demanding a probe into the charges against the Adani Group. A banner reading “Modi-Adani are one” was held up during the protest, reinforcing the accusation of a deep nexus between the two.

While the protest drew attention, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) opted not to participate. The call for a JPC inquiry into the matter has become a significant issue for opposition leaders, particularly as allegations against the Adani Group have garnered widespread attention, especially following the US court’s indictment.

Despite these protests, the Lok Sabha Secretariat issued an advisory earlier in the week urging MPs to refrain from staging demonstrations near Parliament gates, citing security concerns and the potential obstruction of movement. Nonetheless, opposition MPs continued their symbolic stand outside Parliament, echoing their demand for a thorough investigation.

The Congress party has maintained that the charges against Adani, including bribery and fraud, validate their call for a JPC probe into various alleged scams involving the Adani Group. Rahul Gandhi previously called for Adani’s arrest, while the industrialist’s group continues to reject the allegations as baseless.

Jharkhand Ministers to Take Oath in Hemant Soren’s Government

Ranchi, Dec 5, 2024: The much-awaited swearing-in of the council of ministers in the Hemant Soren-led government of Jharkhand is set to take place on Thursday, December 5. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar will officiate the ceremony at Raj Bhavan, Ranchi. The event is expected to mark a significant step in the ongoing political landscape in Jharkhand, following the formation of the new alliance government.

The oath-taking ceremony will commence with Stephen Marandi, the Protem Speaker, taking the oath at around noon. Marandi, a senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA, assumed the position of Protem Speaker after Hemant Soren’s swearing-in as Chief Minister on November 28, 2024.

Following Marandi’s swearing-in, several MLAs are slated to take the oath as ministers. A final list of appointees has already been confirmed by Congress leader Rajesh Thakur, who assured that the list would be submitted to the Governor by Chief Minister Soren. The ministers, as part of the alliance government, will work together for the state’s development, according to Thakur’s statements.

Among the key updates, speculations suggest that Congress will receive four ministerial berths, with MLAs like Irfan Ansari, Deepika Pandey Singh, Radhakrishna Kishore, and Shilpy Neha Tirkey likely to be sworn in. Additionally, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which performed unexpectedly well in the recent elections, is expected to secure one ministerial post. This marks a contrast from the 2019 elections, where RJD had limited representation.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, the largest party in the ruling alliance with 34 out of 43 contested seats, will take the lion’s share of ministerial positions. The JMM’s victory is seen as a significant political triumph, especially as it secured the highest-ever number of constituencies in the state’s assembly elections. The alliance, composed of JMM, Congress, and RJD, has garnered a total of 56 seats in the 81-member assembly.

In an additional development, an assembly session will be convened from December 9-12, 2024, marking the commencement of legislative proceedings under the new government.

Sanjay Raut: “Shinde Era Is Over, Will Never Be CM Again”

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, known for his sharp political commentary, delivered a striking statement declaring that Eknath Shinde’s “era is over” and that he “will never be Chief Minister again.” His remarks follow the Mahayuti coalition’s landslide victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections and the subsequent delay in government formation.

Allegations of Irregularities and Manipulated Results

Raut alleged that the election results, which granted the Mahayuti alliance a commanding 230 out of 288 seats, were “unnatural” and orchestrated through irregular voting patterns. According to Raut, over 76 lakh votes were cast in Maharashtra between 5 PM and 11:30 PM on polling day, raising suspicions about the authenticity of the process. He accused the ruling coalition of using power and money to influence the election outcome, undermining the democratic process.

“This verdict is against the people’s wishes. It is unnatural and forced. The sudden spike in votes during the final hours is the architect of their victory,” Raut commented, highlighting the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi’s (MVA) ongoing review of these irregularities.

Delay in Government Formation Signals Internal Rift

Despite the electoral victory, Raut criticized the Mahayuti alliance for failing to form a government even eight days after the results. He revealed that Eknath Shinde, the caretaker CM, had retreated to his village in Satara during this critical period, suggesting internal discord within the coalition. This has left Maharashtra without a functional government, creating a governance vacuum and raising questions about Shinde’s leadership.

MVA’s Unified Front

In contrast, Raut praised the unity of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, consisting of Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP faction. Dispelling rumors of divisions within the MVA, he assured that the alliance remains intact and is actively strategizing for future elections.

With the Mahayuti coalition grappling with internal tensions and the MVA stepping up its critique, Maharashtra’s political dynamics remain uncertain. Raut’s statements not only highlight dissatisfaction with Shinde’s leadership but also set the tone for the opposition’s approach to reclaiming political ground.
