Chidambaram Criticizes Air India Over Flight Delay, Calls for Competent Management

NEW DELHI: In a recent incident that has drawn sharp criticism, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram expressed his discontent with Air India’s management after a delay on Flight AI 540 from Delhi to Chennai. The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 8:45 PM, pushed back 40 minutes later at 9:25 PM. During this time, passengers were left waiting on the aerobridge for 15 minutes, despite being cleared for boarding.

Chidambaram, a frequent Air India traveler, took to social media to share his frustration, highlighting the lack of clarity and poor coordination that led to the delay. He noted that the boarding process began ten minutes after the scheduled departure, leaving passengers in the dark about the actual departure time.

He further criticized the airline for its failure to show any noticeable improvement since the management transition from the government to the private sector, under Tata Group’s ownership. “I regret that there has been practically no improvement since the management changed hands,” Chidambaram remarked, suggesting that the airline’s issues stemmed from incompetent management at various levels.

This is not the first instance of complaints against the airline. In recent weeks, Air India has faced criticism over multiple service issues, including payment-related problems and hygiene concerns. Notably, Grammy-winning musician Ricky Kej recently reported difficulties with UPI payments during check-in, while another passenger found a cockroach in their meal on a Delhi-New York flight.

As Air India continues its transformation under the new management, it remains to be seen whether these service-related issues will be addressed effectively.

Earth’s Tilt Shifts by 31.5 Inches Due to Groundwater Movement – Human Activities Impact Planetary Rotation

0

In a surprising revelation, Earth’s rotational tilt has shifted by 31.5 inches (80 cm) over the past 17 years, a change linked not to asteroids or cosmic disturbances, but to human activity. A study led by Seoul National University’s Ki-Weon Seo has confirmed that the massive redistribution of groundwater is the primary cause behind this shift. Between 1993 and 2010, around 2,150 gigatons of groundwater were pumped globally, altering the planet’s balance and nudging its axis more significantly than any other climate-related factor.

The research, published in Geophysical Research Letters, reveals that this groundwater redistribution, particularly in mid-latitudes such as North America and India, has significantly impacted Earth’s spin, contributing to a phenomenon known as “polar drift.” This drift could have unpredictable effects on the planet’s climate over time.

While the tilt shift won’t change the seasons, which are influenced by Earth’s long-standing tilt from an ancient collision with a Mars-sized object named Theia, it could lead to changes in weather patterns and global climate systems. Scientists warn that ongoing water mismanagement, especially in agriculture and industry, could accelerate these shifts.

The findings serve as a stark reminder of the profound impact human activities have on planetary systems. By pumping vast amounts of groundwater, we are not only altering the Earth’s axial tilt but also contributing to rising sea levels and land subsidence. As experts suggest, mitigating groundwater depletion could help stabilize these shifts and protect the planet’s climate balance.

MSMEs Can Strengthen Financial Health Through Digital Payments and Formal Registration: RBI Deputy Governor

MUMBAI: Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India can significantly improve their financial prospects by adopting formal registration and embracing digital payment systems, according to Swaminathan J, Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Speaking at the CEO Forum of the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Hyderabad, Swaminathan emphasized the importance of building a transparent financial footprint, which will foster credibility and enhance access to timely credit.

While MSMEs are integral to India’s economy, contributing 30% of the GDP and employing a vast workforce, they face significant hurdles in securing adequate financing. One of the major challenges is the lack of formalization, which hampers their ability to gain the trust of financial institutions. Swaminathan stressed the need for MSMEs to build a strong credit history and adopt digital payments, which can help them maintain accurate financial records and unlock new financing opportunities.

Swaminathan highlighted that many MSMEs struggle with asset-based lending because they lack the necessary collateral. As a result, these businesses often remain excluded from formal credit channels. Digital payment systems, however, can generate valuable data that can improve the assessment of their financial health, enabling banks to offer more customized financial products. Platforms like the Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS) are also gaining momentum, helping MSMEs unlock liquidity by facilitating trade receivables financing.

To address these challenges, the RBI has called for increased digital adoption among MSMEs, which will not only streamline their cash flow but also help them scale more efficiently. The RBI’s expert committee has previously estimated a credit gap of Rs 20-25 trillion, underscoring the urgent need for focused interventions.

Among the deceased were Anno and Zoya, relatives of Jameel Khan, who owned the building where the illegal firecracker unit was operating. Two other victims, identified as Pappu Gurjar and Golu Prajapati, also lost their lives. This has raised questions about safety regulations and enforcement in the area. Hindu Leader Sent to Jail by Bangladesh Court Amid Protests

Chattogram, Bangladesh – Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a prominent leader of the Hindu organization Sammilita Sanatani Jote, was ordered to jail on Tuesday by a Chattogram court after his bail plea was denied. The decision was delivered by Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam around 11:45 am, according to local media reports.

The court ruling sparked protests from the followers of Brahmachari, who chanted slogans in frustration at the court premises. The leader had been charged with sedition following an alleged act of disrespect toward Bangladesh’s national flag during a religious rally in October. The incident involved hoisting a saffron-colored flag over the national flag, which was deemed a serious violation of national integrity.

The sedition case against Brahmachari and other community leaders has heightened tensions within Bangladesh’s Hindu minority. Protesters in Chattogram have demanded the withdrawal of the charges, claiming they are politically motivated. Sanatan Jagaran Mancha leaders have vowed to escalate demonstrations if their demands are not met.

This controversy comes amid rising concerns over minority rights in Bangladesh, with reports of attacks on Hindu temples and businesses following political unrest earlier this year. The case underscores the challenges faced by religious minorities in the region.

Say Goodbye to Dandruff: Proven Strategies for a Flake-Free Scalp

Dandruff is a widespread scalp condition that affects millions, often causing itching, irritation, and noticeable flakes. While not a serious health issue, dandruff can be embarrassing and difficult to manage. Fortunately, several strategies can help control dandruff and promote a healthier scalp.

Causes of Dandruff

Dandruff may occur due to multiple factors:

  • Dry Skin: Cold weather often exacerbates flaking.
  • Oily Scalp: Excess oil can create a breeding ground for Malassezia, a yeast-like fungus responsible for dandruff.
  • Poor Hygiene: Infrequent hair washing leads to a buildup of oil and dead skin cells.
  • Skin Conditions: Conditions like seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis can trigger dandruff.
  • Sensitivity to Products: Some hair products can irritate the scalp, worsening flakes.

Effective Remedies for Dandruff

To tackle dandruff, experts recommend the following solutions:

  1. Anti-Dandruff Shampoos
Shampoos containing active ingredients like ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, or selenium sulfide can significantly reduce flakes. Dermatologists often recommend using these regularly and leaving the product on the scalp for a few minutes to allow it to work effectively.
  2. Moisturize Your Scalp
For dry scalp-related dandruff, natural oils like coconut oil or olive oil can help. Apply them gently to your scalp and leave them overnight before washing them off.Natural Remedies
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: Known for balancing pH levels, it can help prevent fungal growth when diluted and used as a rinse.
  • Tea Tree Oil: Its antifungal properties can combat dandruff when added to your regular shampoo.
  • Aloe Vera: Known for its soothing effect, aloe vera can calm irritated, flaky scalps.Dietary Adjustments
Incorporating foods rich in zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins B and E can help promote scalp health.
  1. Regular Washing
To avoid product buildup, wash your hair 2–3 times a week. However, don’t over-wash, as it can strip the scalp of essential oils.
  2. Stress Management
Research indicates that stress can trigger dandruff outbreaks. Practices like yoga and meditation can help reduce stress levels.

When to See a Dermatologist

If home remedies don’t work, or if dandruff is persistent, it’s advisable to consult a dermatologist. They may recommend prescription-strength treatments tailored to your scalp’s specific needs.

Incorporating these strategies into your routine will help you manage dandruff more effectively, ensuring a flake-free and healthy scalp.

Apple AirPods 4 with ANC: A Game-Changer for Open-Ear Comfort

MUMBAI: Apple’s AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is a remarkable addition to its earbud lineup, designed for users seeking comfort, high-quality sound, and seamless integration with the Apple ecosystem. Priced at Rs 17,900, these innovative open-ear earbuds bridge the gap between the more affordable AirPods 4 (Rs 12,900) and the premium AirPods Pro 2 (Rs 24,900), offering a perfect balance of features and affordability.

Sleek Design & Comfort

The AirPods 4 ANC comes with a minimalist case, now equipped with a USB-C port for broader device compatibility and wireless charging support. The buds retain the iconic AirPods design, but with subtle tweaks for improved fit and comfort. While not as snug as in-ear models, the open-ear design ensures hours of wearability without discomfort, making them ideal for users who prefer a lighter, more breathable option during extended use or physical activity.

Advanced Features for Apple Users

One standout feature is the inclusion of ANC in an open-ear design, a first for Apple. The earbuds effectively reduce ambient low-frequency noises, such as engine hums and traffic, without fully isolating you from your surroundings. Additionally, the AirPods 4 ANC features Adaptive Audio, Transparency Mode, and Conversation Awareness, which adjusts the volume when it detects speech, allowing for easy interactions without removing the earbuds.

Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking and nod gestures for Siri add a layer of convenience and immersion, particularly for users within the Apple ecosystem. Pairing with iPhones is effortless, and the seamless device switching makes it an appealing option for those deeply integrated into Apple’s products.

Battery Life and Performance

While the battery life on the AirPods 4 ANC is somewhat limited, offering only 4 hours with ANC on (up to 20 hours with the case), it’s still adequate for most casual users. The fast-charging feature (80% in 20 minutes) ensures that you won’t be without your music for long.

However, the earbuds do have some drawbacks, including sound leakage and a lack of deep bass, which may deter audiophiles or those looking for a more immersive listening experience. Despite this, the AirPods 4 ANC provides a balanced, clear sound suitable for lighter genres like jazz or classical music.

Verdict

For those seeking a comfortable, feature-packed earbud within the Apple ecosystem, the AirPods 4 ANC is a solid choice. Though it’s not without its flaws, such as limited battery life and sound leakage, its unique open-ear design with ANC sets it apart from other offerings in this price range.

Hyundai India Faces Tax Scrutiny Over Discrepancies in Input Tax Credit Claims

MUMBAI: Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), one of the country’s top automobile manufacturers, is under investigation by the Maharashtra State Tax Authority for alleged discrepancies in its input tax credit (ITC) claims. The tax authority has issued a show cause notice to the company, accusing it of claiming an “excess ITC” in its GSTR 3B/9 returns for the financial year 2020-21, which was not corroborated by the data in GSTR 2B/8A. The notice also points to issues regarding the reverse charge mechanism (RCM) tax paid by Hyundai.

The total demand raised in the notice amounts to Rs 2.741 crore in taxes and Rs 2.279 crore in interest. Hyundai clarified that it intends to respond to the show cause notice within the stipulated timelines, asserting that this is a routine compliance issue that does not impact the company’s financials or operations. The company also reassured its stakeholders that this matter would be addressed through the appropriate channels.

The company further stated that the notice has no immediate bearing on its activities, and it is confident in resolving the issue with the adjudicating authorities. Hyundai Motor India, based in Gurugram, Haryana, remains a key player in the Indian automotive market.

The show cause notice highlights the ongoing scrutiny of input tax credit claims in India, where discrepancies in GST filings have led to penalties and investigations for several firms. For instance, the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) recently uncovered fraudulent ITC claims worth billions across various industries. Hyundai’s case, however, is still under review.

Hyundai’s recent financial reports also noted a 16% decline in its net profit for Q2, which was partly attributed to weak domestic demand and challenges in its export markets.
