0

PERTH: Jasprit Bumrah, known for his remarkable cricketing intellect, is ready to lead India in the first Test against Australia, starting November 22, 2024, at Perth’s Optus Stadium. With regular captain Rohit Sharma on paternity leave, Bumrah steps into the captaincy role in a series crucial for India’s World Test Championship (WTC) aspirations.

Addressing the media, Bumrah highlighted his approach to captaincy as a responsibility rather than a title. His tactical sharpness, coupled with previous captaincy stints—including leading India to a T20I series victory against Ireland—positions him as a capable leader under pressure. Former cricketers like Suresh Raina and Gautam Gambhir have lauded Bumrah’s potential, comparing his style to Australia’s Pat Cummins.

India enters this series with the added pressure of bouncing back after a 3-0 defeat to New Zealand. Bumrah’s leadership will be pivotal in setting the tone for a challenging away series. His ability to inspire and strategize could be a defining factor in shaping India’s WTC campaign and cementing his place as a future leader.

Copper Futures See Gains on Demand Growth and Market Optimism

NEW DELHI: Copper futures advanced on Thursday, with the December delivery contract rising by 0.27% to ₹809.40 per kilogram on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). The upward movement was supported by increased spot demand and speculative interest, with trading volumes reaching 6,483 lots.

This surge reflects broader market trends, driven by demand from renewable energy initiatives and electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure projects. China’s recent $560 billion stimulus package and the Federal Reserve’s rate cuts have infused optimism into the market, supporting price stability and growth. Analysts predict continued upward momentum for copper as tighter supplies and a seasonal increase in demand bolster the market in Q4 2024.

Globally, copper remains pivotal to the energy transition, with its use in solar power, wind energy, and EVs projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 10.7% through 2034. This surge in demand highlights copper’s central role in achieving sustainability goals.

Authorities from the Ambajogai Rural Police Station confirmed that the case involves multiple charges, including physical assault, property destruction, and disruption of the electoral process. LOP Rahul Gandhi Urges Swift Action in Adani Controversy Amidst Allegations of Fraud

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi intensified his criticism of industrialist Gautam Adani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling for immediate action in light of fresh allegations against the Adani Group. Addressing the media, Gandhi demanded the billionaire’s arrest and a comprehensive investigation led by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) following reports of bribery and financial misconduct.

The allegations stem from a U.S. prosecution that accuses Adani of orchestrating a $250 million bribery scheme involving Indian officials. Gandhi alleged that this case not only violates Indian laws but also compromises India’s international reputation, citing extensive reporting by global investigative networks such as the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).

In his statement, Gandhi criticized SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) for its alleged failure to act impartially. He called for the removal of SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and an inquiry into her decision-making, especially considering recent reports suggesting lapses in regulatory oversight of Adani-linked entities operating in offshore tax havens.

The Congress leader reiterated his long-standing demands for transparency, asserting that the government has shielded Adani from accountability. He questioned SEBI’s reluctance to disclose prior investigations into the conglomerate, which included allegations of money laundering and share price manipulation.

Gandhi vowed to raise the issue during the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament, reinforcing the opposition’s commitment to demanding justice and transparency. The Congress party has termed the allegations the “biggest corruption scandal in Indian history” and accused the Modi government of actively facilitating unethical business practices.

Criticism has also come from other opposition leaders, including AAP, who joined the chorus calling for strict action. They emphasized that the controversy casts a shadow over India’s financial integrity and global image, especially ahead of critical international engagements like the G20 summit.

Election Commission Suspends Two Police Officers After Akhilesh Yadav’s Complaint of Voter Harassment

The Election Commission of India (EC) has taken swift action after Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav raised concerns over police personnel hindering voters during Uttar Pradesh’s ongoing bypolls. On Wednesday, the EC suspended two police officers for violating electoral guidelines after videos showed officers stopping voters from casting their ballots.

The bypolls are taking place across nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, including Ghaziabad, Katehari, Khair, Kundarki, Karhal, Majhawan, Meerapur, Phulpur, and Sisamau. Yadav posted on social media, alleging that certain communities were being barred from voting and requesting the Election Commission to investigate. He backed his complaint with video evidence, prompting the Election Commission to direct district election officers and police superintendents to verify the claims.

In response, the Police Commissionerate of Kanpur Nagar suspended two sub-inspectors, Arun Kumar Singh and Rakesh Nadar, for their misconduct. The commissionerate confirmed the suspension in a post on X (formerly Twitter) and assured that it would remind all officers to adhere strictly to election guidelines.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar took serious note of these allegations, stressing the need for a fair and impartial election process.

He directed Uttar Pradesh election officials to promptly address complaints, ensuring that no eligible voter would be prevented from voting. Kumar emphasized that they would not tolerate any biased behavior or malpractice.

After the suspension, Akhilesh Yadav urged voters, who had previously been stopped, to go and cast their votes again.

Yadav assured the public of no further voter suppression, urging reports of harassment, while the EC ensures electoral integrity.
